Two semis collided on northbound I-57 at mile marker 133 between Kinmundy and Farina early Sunday morning.

Initial information from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department indicates one of the trucks broke down in the driving lane and was hit in the rear by the second semi who didn’t see it in time to stop.   The impact was caused by cat litter being hauled in the truck that was struck, which spilled onto the highway.

Both drivers escaped injury.   The cat litter was blown off the road before it reopened to traffic.

The crash occurred around 4:40 Sunday morning, and traffic was rerouted off I-57 onto Route 37 between Kinmundy and Farina for about a half hour while crews cleared the road and reopened it.
