Cougars Win School’s 15th Baseball Regional, Will Head To Okaw Valley On Wednesday

The SC Cougars are headed to Sectionals after winning the school’s 15th regional championship knocking off visiting Altamont 10-5 at Lions Field.  SC jumped out early with 9 runs in their first two at bats to take a 9-1 lead after two innings.  Beau Jolliff homered and drove in 5 with Andrew Magnus adding another RBI for the Cougars.  Jared Hammer did most of the damage for Altamont as he homered twice for his 4 RBI.  Chase Dodson combined with brother Aiden and Brandt Hiestand to get the win.  The Cougars advance to Wednesday’s Sectional when they take on Okaw Valley.

Also in 1a regional finals, North Clay upset top seed St Anthony 6-1, Father McGivney 7-2 winners over Metro East Lutheran, Goreville 18-5 over Cobden, Cumberland shutout Neoga 6-0, Okaw Valley over Arthur 4-0, Okawville 2-1 over Mt Olive, Steeleville shutout Valmeyer 5-0, Woodlawn routs Edwards County 13-3

In 2a regional title games, Columbia beat Central 10-1, Carterville 2-0 over Benton, Freeburg 12-2 over Mater Dei, Pana beat Hillsboro 4-2, Tuscola lost to Paris 7-0, TTown 8-5 winners over Greenville, North Mac beat Staunton 3-0 and Zeigler 5-3 winners over Waltonville.

In 3a, Charleston beat Highland 7-2, Mascoutah 12-1 over Herrin, Mt Vernon beat Marion 7-2, Chatham 10-2 over Mt Zion and Triad nipped Mattoon 5-4.

In 4a, O’Fallon shutout Granite City 11-0.
