The Salem Wildcats boys track team traveled to Columbia for the Cahokia Conference Track and Field Championship meet.
The Wildcats placed a solid 3rd, 2 ½ points behind Breese Central and 12 points behind Freeburg. The meet was tight throughout the day, with Freeburg pulling away toward the end.
Logan Rubin won the long jump, placed 2nd in the triple jump. Creed Phillips won the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles and placed in the pole vault. Alek Bandy won the pole vault, while Jervace Mayes was 2nd in the high jump and placed in the long jump, the 100 meters and the 400 meters.
Caleb Smith won the shot put and was 2nd in the discus, while Cole Johnson won the discus and placed in the shot. The Wildcats placed in 17 of the 18 events. The 4×100 relay team of Haddon Lybarger, Rubin, Braden Smith, and Sean Thorton placed 3rd, the 4×400 relay team of Rubin, Lybarger, Thornton and Rylan Crane finished 3rd. Several personal best for the meet and just a solid all effort for the team as a whole.
