Marion County Clerk Steve Fox is predicting a 55-percent voter turnout in Tuesday’s general election.
“I’m looking at a little bit better than we did in 2022 for the governor’s general election,” Fox said. “Early voting has been up by just a hair and vote by mail is right in line with what we did in 2022, so I’m going to go with a 55 percent voter turnout in this election, which is up just a few points from what we did in ’22 with 53 percent.”
There are contested races for all statewide offices, congressman, as well as several Marion County Board seats, but the Marion County Sheriff’s Race between Republican candidate Anthony Decker and write in candidate Cody Rose appears to be creating the most interest.
Fox says a large number of write in votes should not delay the counting process.
“Luckily, with the voting equipment that we have in this day and age, the write-ins work just like any other races,” Fox said. ”On election night, we’re going to have a rundown just like we would of any other races on the ballot to see where we’re at, and we’ll take care of any additional work for any ballots that we need to count in the fourteen-day window after the election and update those results also.
Polls will be open Tuesday from six am to seven pm.
Fox is reminding voters in Salem Precincts 1, 2, 5, and 8 that they will once again be voting at the Marion County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building after the emergency change to that location prior to the election.
