Interstate 57 southbound traffic between the Route 161 and Dix exits was closed to traffic for around four hours after two semi truck crashes on southbound I-57 at the 105 mile marker not of Dix.
State Police say a truck tractor semi trailer combination vehicle left the roadway into the median and then overturned across both southbound lanes when returning to the highway. A second truck was unable to stop in time to avoid the rolled over truck.
The driver of the first truck was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon for treatment of injuries. The driver and passenger in the second vehicle were checked on the scene, but declined hospital treatment.
Jefferson Fire joined Litton’s and United Response Ambulance on the scene to assist those involved in the crash.
The crash occurred at 11:16 Wednesday night. The highway was cleared around three Thursday morning.
