A four-year-old rural Iuka boy was injured when a riding lawn mower backed over him early Tuesday evening.
Iuka Fire Chief Kenny Eagan says one of the boy’s legs and ankles were trapped underneath the deck and blade. Firefighters had to remove both to free the boy. The fire department and United Medical Response then assisted an Air Evac helicopter to land near the home at the intersection of Quail Run and Kinmundy Roads to be transported to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment.
Initial information indicates the four-year-old was out in the yard and had come up behind the lawn mower unnoticed.
The incident was reported at 6:08 Tuesday night.
Authorities have not released the boy’s name.
