The Nashville HS Cross Country Invitational was held today at Washington County Lake Conservation Area.
Woodlawn HS Senior Zelena Koch made it 7 medals in her last 7 races as she would place 17th (Top 20 medaled) out of 62 Varsity Girl competitors. She had her 2nd fastest time of the season (22:26), her fastest time being on a 2.95mi course, as today’s course at Nashville measured in at 3.1mi. The Nashville course is no cake walk, with rolling hills and rugged terrain. She improved her time from last season’s race at Nashville by 1:01 and was 1:48 faster than her time Saturday at SIU-E. Her 3rd mile is getting stronger and she ran with a lot of heart today. In my opinion this was her best race of the season thus far! She’s putting together one heck of a senior season!
Freshman Zaylor Koch also had a really good day at Nashville, improving her time from Saturday’s meet at SIU-E by 1:38 and narrowly missing her PR by just 3 seconds. She would finish 38th out of 62 runners in the Girls Varsity Division.
To start the day Woodlawn HS Freshman Camden Hughes continued a strong freshman season today. Hughes improved his time from Saturday’s SIU-E Inv. by 1:17. Hughes would also drop his time back under the 21min mark today (20:30) and this would be his fastest 3.1 mi time of the season! He would finish 58/93 in the Varsity Boys Race.
With the temperatures dropping these 3 distance runners took full advantage today on another tough Southern Illinois course at the Conservation Park. All 3 ran great races on tired legs, having just raced one of the hardest, if not the hardest course in Southern Illinois at SIU-E just 2 days prior, on Saturday.
