The Salem Community High School band opened the Marching Season Saturday by earning Grand Champion at the Robinson Moving Maroon Festival. They also won first place in their class as well as best percussion, best auxiliary, and best drum major.
Band Director John Randolph says it was a pretty good start. This year, the band has 45 members. The show is entitled ‘Reign’, which has an Egyptian theme.
The SCHS band next competes in the SIU-C band show on Saturday. The following week, the band marches in the Little Egypt Festival.
In addition to Randolph, the band staff includes assistant director Andrew Styninger, Rebecca Hays, who is the color guard instructor, and Zoey Neiple, who worked with the front ensemble during the summer.
