The Salem Wildcats battled with Breese Central in Clinton County last night in prep soccer, with the Cats pulling out a 2-1 victory. The game was scoreless at the half, with Salem getting on the board first in the second half with an Alex Spencer goal on an assist from Isaiah Findley. Then Salem made it 2-0 with 7 minutes left when Avery Gullion threw in from the near sideline and found twin brother Payton Gullion with the flick on header goal. It would be the game winner, as Breese never gave up and kept battling scoring their goal with 4 minutes to go setting up a wild final few minutes. Salem is 4-2 on the year and will open the SI River to River tomorrow when they host Anna Jonesboro at 11.
Centralia fell to Marion 4-3. The Orphans had tied the match at 3 with just over 10 minutes to play, but Marion wasted no time answering back 13 seconds later for the game winner. Javier Hortal had 2 goals and Dax Snow added one for the Orphans who fell to 5-3. Centralia will head to Carterville on Saturday.
