The Salem City Council has a full agenda Tuesday night considering three TIF agreements, seeking a grant for the Salem Community Theatre, and authorizing motor fuel tax for development of Maverick Drive.
The council will be asked to appropriate $188,022 for design and construction engineering costs of Maverick Street that will be across West Main from the I-57 southbound exit ramp. The street will go east of Salem Tire and then make a 90-degree turn to connect to Hotze Road. The road is expected to open up new development south of Salem Tire, including a possible truck stop.
The council will also consider an amendment to an earlier TIF-4 agreement with Glen Henderson doing business as Salem Tire, Inc to remodel and renovation commercial structures of the property while working with the city on Maverick Street. The TIF will reimburse Salem Tire for expenses totaling $90,000 of the project.
A second TIF-4 agreement would allow Cory Thorsen, doing business as T-Squared Holdings, to convert a vacant commercial building at 401 South College Avenue to a residential unit. The agreement would reimburse Thorsen for $10,000 at the completion of the project.
A third TIF-4 agreement would reimburse the Greater Salem Area Chamber of Commerce $7,000 for replacement of the roof of the Chamber Office at 615 West Main.
The council will be asked to support a $261,025 Community Development grant for renovation of the outside of the Salem Community Theatre. The work would include repairs to the cast concrete blocks, marquee, tuckpointing and sealing of brick where necessary and minor interior renovation. The work would stabilize the exterior of the building for years to come.
The council will consider award of a $362,879 bid to Haier Plumbing for replacement of the Deer Path/Meadow Lane water line. The bid is well under the $644,000 budgeted for the project.
Ricardo Salgado is seeking a special use permit for second-floor residential units at 2524 South Broadway which is in the B-3 Highway Business District.
Salem Gas ‘n Go at 500 South Broadway is requesting to change its liquor license from Class C to A to allow for the on-site consumption of liquor. The change would also allow the Gas ‘n Go to offer video gaming.
The Bryan Bennett Library will request its annual two-cent property tax levy for building maintenance and equipment allowed under state law.
The council is being asked to approve a two-year contract with 20/20 Technical Advisors, LLC for IT Service Support and Cloud Backup Services at the Salem Police Department.
Bids will be opened on the sale of real estate at 420 East Church.
The meeting begins at six Tuesday night at Salem City Hall. The meeting was delayed from Monday due to the Labor Day holiday.
