Mt. Vernon Festivals, Inc. invites the community to come together for a special evening of appreciation and remembrance during Friday’s Food & Art: A Tribute to First Responders, Friday, September 11, from 5–8 p.m. at The Commons in downtown Mt. Vernon.
Held on the 25th anniversary of September 11, the evening will provide an opportunity to remember the events and sacrifices of 9/11 while recognizing the first responders who continue to serve Jefferson County every day.
“We wanted this Friday’s Food & Art to be more than just another community event,” said Angela Schrum, Director of Mt. Vernon Festivals, Inc. “September 11 is a day to remember those we lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the incredible sense of unity our country experienced afterward. We hope our local first responders will come enjoy the evening and allow our community the opportunity to simply say thank you.”
As a special gesture of appreciation, Jefferson County first responders are invited to enjoy a free taco bar during the event. The complimentary meal is made possible through the support of SERVPRO, GreenTree at Mt. Vernon, AT & T and Jacuzzi Bath Remodel.
Friday’s Food & Art will also feature food vendors, local makers and vendors, and live music by Fire & Ice. The event begins at 5 p.m., with live music beginning at 5:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy the evening at The Commons. Additional vendors will be onsite with arts, crafts and food.
Adding to the evening’s art component, Chris Webster of Dry Bones Tattoo will be featured as the event’s Local Artist Spotlight. Webster will perform a live tattoo demonstration, giving guests an up-close look at the artistry, skill and creativity involved in creating custom tattoo artwork.
Webster is also partnering with Mt. Vernon Festivals to give away a free tattoo to a Jefferson County first responder, adding another special way to recognize those who serve the community.
“Friday’s Food & Art was created to give people a place to gather while showcasing local food, music, artists and businesses,” Schrum added. “Being able to combine all of that with an opportunity to honor our first responders makes this an especially meaningful evening for us.”
Friday’s Food & Art: A Tribute to First Responders is free and open to the public and will be held from 5–8 p.m. Friday, September 11, at The Commons, 911 Broadway, in downtown Mt. Vernon.
