There will be a write-in candidate for sheriff as Cody Rose still wants voters to have an opportunity to vote for him.
After Sheriff Kevin Cripps announced he was withdrawing as a candidate for re-election, Rose announced as a candidate to be considered in the Republican party caucus held last week. However, during his talk to precinct committeemen he withdrew as a candidate due to the way the process was being conducted.
Rose says by doing so he protected his ability to run as a write-in. A candidate who loses a party primary is not allowed to come back as a write-in candidate in the general election in the same year.
County Clerk Steve Fox says the law isn’t clear if losing a caucus would be the same as losing a primary.
Fox says a write-in candidate can also have their petition challenged with a hearing before the same electoral board that is hearing the objections to Anthony Decker receiving the nomination from the caucus.
