Kenneth Lee Tomes Jr., 71, of Sandoval passed away Friday, August 7, 2026, at Odin Health Care Center. He was born on June 3, 1955, in Kentucky, the son of Kenneth Sr. and Shirley (Byrne) Tomes. He married the love of his life, Connie Sue Kaufman on August 2, 2002, and she survives him in Sandoval.
Along with his beloved wife of 24 years, Connie Tomes, survivors that were so grateful to have had Ken in their lives include his mother, Shirley Tomes of Alabama; children, LaShana Lyons of Sandoval, Molly Brown and Chris of Central City, Wendy Hurst and Brandon of Centralia, Candy Tomes of Sandoval, Rebecca Tomes of Sandoval, Amanda Berger and Josh of Central City, Ashley Stewart and Jason Smith of Sandoval, Michael Stewart and Casey of Sandoval, Keisha Stewart of Salem, and Matthew Wehking and Danielle of Mount Vernon; thirty-three grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; brother, Robert Tomes of Alabama; sister, Barbara Windell and Mike of Indiana; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Ken was preceded in death by father, Kenneth Lee Tomes Sr.; and sisters, Cathy Tomes, and Patricia Boothman.
Ken was easily known as the life of the party, always bringing fun times and contagious energy everywhere he went. He was ever looking for the next game of cards to be dealt into, and he liked trying out his luck at the casino. Ken was a jokester who liked to tease family and friends. He was the guy who kept everyone laughing. He was a loyal family man who appreciated and deeply loved his parents, wife, kids, grandkids, siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ken liked to be in the know of what was happening around town. If he didn’t know about it, it hadn’t happened yet. He was definitely a social butterfly who enjoyed time spent visiting with family and friends. Ken will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his lucky winning streaks, his generous way of helping in times of need, and his deep love for his family.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval with Pastor Ronnie Tabor officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to the visitation from
1:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service on Thursday at the funeral home in Sandoval. Memorials may be made in Ken’s honor to his family and will be accepted for them at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval.
