The Salem Lions Club will once again this year provide a goody bag to the 2021 graduating class.
Salem High School Athletic Director Scott Steward who also serves on the Salem Lion’s Post Prom Committee says they know it’s been a tough year and they want the graduates to know their work has been appreciated and the community wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavors.
“Unfortunately due to our situation we are unable to have Post Prom at SCHS but our local Lion’s Club wanted to still be involved with this year’s graduating class and put together a gift bag for each one of the graduating seniors. We are working on raising funds to give them nice things they can have to commemorate their last year at SCHS. We are going to provide them with a t-shirt and other goodies, and looking for funds to make that a little bit easier on our local Lion’s Club.”
Lion’s Club President Tabitha Meador explains what the bag will contain.
“Lion’s Club is sponsoring the t-shirts and koozies. There was a contest and a senior student has provided a design that will be used. We are also collecting items from the community. The Medicine Shoppe has provided some hand sanitizer. Salem Travel has provided a few items as well and if anybody would like to contact me for any goodies to go into the community/Lion’s Club gift bag they are more than welcome too.”
If you’d like to help, Meador can be contacted at Salem City Hall and Steward at Salem Community High School.
The t-shirt was designed by Senior Taylor Allen in a contest sponsored by Salem Travel.
Salem Community High School officials say 149 are scheduled to graduate in ceremonies on Sunday. They will be held in BE Gum Gymnasium. Due to the relaxation of COVID-19 mitigations, Superintendent Dr. Brad Detering says each graduate has now received 10 tickets instead of the six that was originally planned.
A limited Junior-Senior Prom is scheduled at the SCHS Gym on Friday, May 21st, but there will be no Post Prom this year.
