Loy Sue Toney, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Saturday, July 18th, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on March 3rd, 1945, in Mt. Vernon, Sue is the daughter of Loyd Bradford and Dorothy (Phillips) Bradford. She married the love of her life, Sammy Toney, on September 19, 1961, and they shared 64 years together until he passed away on April 23, 2025.
For over 50 years, Sue worked passionately as a beautician, touching the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and artistic flair. Her loyal clientele and colleagues remember her not only for her skill but for the vibrant conversations and deep connections she fostered over the decades.
A member of the Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon, Sue’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She found joy and fulfillment within her church community, where she dedicated her time and talents. Her love for crafts was well-known, and she delighted in sharing this with her family and friends, leaving behind handmade treasures that will be cherished for generations.
Sue is survived by her loving daughter, Sammie Oliver of Mt. Vernon; her brothers, Sonny Bradford and wife Madeline of Mt. Vernon, Jason Bradford and wife Kathy of Mt. Vernon, and Johnny Bradford and wife Sharon of Oklahoma; and her dear sisters, Tracy Frassato of Mt. Vernon, Linda McKinney and husband Dennis of Scott City, Missouri, and Becky Drennan and husband Stan of Mt. Vernon. Her legacy lives on in her grandchildren, Ashley Adams, Brittney Jablonski, Sydnee Glover, Tyler Toney, Christina Donovan, Makynzi Oliver, and Daegon Oliver, as well as her great-grandchildren, Abigail Adams, Baylee Backues, Emma Adams, Madison Backues, Myles Toney, Ella Toney, Silas Glover, Navy Jablonski, Jaxton Jablonski, and Dahlilah Halfacre and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Mark Toney; parents, Loyd Bradford and Dorothy (Phillips) Bradford; her husband, Sammy Toney; brothers, Jack and David Bradford; and a sister, Billie Kerins, with whom she is now reunited.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.. Sue’s family finds comfort in knowing that she is at peace, and they invite those who knew and loved her to honor her memory in their hearts.
