WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Capitals have won a preview of their Stanley Cup first-round series with the Boston Bruins.
Michael Raffl scored from a tight angle with 1.8 seconds remaining to give the Caps a 2-1 victory over the B’s. Carl Hagelin also scored and Vitek Vanecek stopped 25 shots for Washington in the regular-season finale for both teams.
The Capitals also welcomed back forwards Alex Ovechkin and center Nicklas Backstrom from lower-body injuries.
Curtis Lazar scored for the Bruins, who played largely a reserve squad.
In Tuesday’s other NHL game, Blake Wheeler had two goals and two assists as the Jets beat the Canucks, 5-0 to clinch third place in the North Division. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 24 shots for his fourth shutout of the season and 24th of the season.
Kyle Connor had a goal and two assists, Mark Scheifele added a goal and an assist for Winnipeg.
