The Triad Knights are headed to the IHSA Class 3A State Championship Game for the first time in program history after defeating Crystal Lake South 2-0 in the state semifinal Friday in Joliet.
Triad scored both of its runs in the fourth inning and made them stand up behind a stellar defensive effort and a complete-game shutout from Nolan Keller. Crystal Lake South collected eight hits, but the Knights’ defense consistently came up with key plays to keep the Gators off the scoreboard.
With the victory, Triad advances to Saturday’s Class 3A State Championship Game, where the Knights will face St. Rita at 1 p.m. at Duly Health and Care Field in Joliet.
The appearance marks the first state championship game berth in Triad baseball history.
