John Robert Nauert, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on September 6th, 1959, in Salem, Illinois, John is the son of John Robert Nauert Sr and Florence Elizabeth (Bumgarner) Nauert. In 1979 he married Tina Beth Hodge and they later divorced in 1989.
John proudly served his nation as a PFC in the United States Army, a commitment that shaped his strong sense of discipline and service. His post-military career spanned many years at Rockwell/Cambridge, where he was respected for his work ethic and camaraderie.
He was a beloved member of the American Legion and VFW, where John found immense joy and fellowship. His passions included the simple and profound pleasures of life such as riding Side by Sides, enjoying nights around campfires, immersing himself in the outdoors, nurturing his garden, and spending serene hours fishing.
John is survived by his ex wife, Tina Hodge. His legacy of love continues through his son Robert Nauert, daughter Jennifer (Nauert) Lewis, and his step-sons Eric “Charlie” Barton and Rufus Ashby .He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren, whose lives he enriched with his kindness and humor.
He is also survived by his siblings: brothers Donald Keith Nauert and wife Kelly, Bruce Edward Nauert, Kenny Paul Nauert and wife Heather, and Robin Eugene Morris and wife Shelly, a sister, Gwendolyn Suzie Baker as well as a dear friend, Patricia Barton. John’s extended family and friends will remember him fondly for his warmth and generous spirit.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Alvin Nauert, step-brothers Clyde Rodger Gumm and Kelly Jo Gumm, and his sister Patty Mount. Their memories will continue to be cherished by all who knew them.
