The Father McGivney Lady Griffins made history Saturday, capturing the IHSA Class 1A Girls Soccer State Championship with a 3-0 victory over Pleasant Plains at North Central College in Naperville. In their first-ever trip to the state finals, the Lady Griffins finished the season 24-2-3 and claimed the first state title in program history. Kinley Dettmers opened the scoring midway through the first half before Natalie Beck added a penalty kick goal to give McGivney a 2-0 advantage at halftime. Mira Ahlvers added an insurance goal in the second half, while goalkeeper Peyton Ellis recorded a save as the Griffins completed the shutout and brought home the championship trophy.
