A Monday evening severe thunderstorm caused several down trees in the Country Club Road area near the public boat docks on Raccoon Lake. Centralia City Firemen say 12 people were trapped at Point Park after a large tree fell bringing down power lines on Country Club Road between Gragg Street and the boat docks. After Ameren was able to eliminate power the lines, city crews had to cut up and remove the trees to reopen the road.
Nearby on Lackey Lane, a large tree fell into the Jim O'Neill home crushing the roof over the living room. O'Neill fortunately was not at home, as he was away at a Celebrate Recovery meeting, and found the damage when returning home.
Ameren was also busy restoring power in several other locations following the storm.
The storm is also blamed for blowing shingles off a home in Odin. A large part of Marion County received heavy rains as the single cell storm moved through. The Centralia Water Plant had 1.18 inches of rain and the Salem Water Department .93 inches of rain.
