The IHSA State track and field championships were held over the weekend at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.  In 2a, Metamora was team champion with Cahokia 2nd and Carbondale 3rd, Marion was 8th.

 

Salem sophomore Silas Lux was 4th in the shot put with a throw of 55’7’’ and junior Trey Clark threw 2 PR throws as he finished 2nd to Carbondale’s Joseph Frierdich with a throw of 165’8’’.

 

Mt Vernon’s Keaton Koch had a great day.  He was 6th in the 200m, 6th in the 110 hurdles and was 5th as part of the 4×200 meter relay team along with Carter, Sledge and Knappier.  Mt Vernon’s 4×800 team was 10th.  Rams Karter Oliver was 11th in the high jump.  Spencer Sledge was 5th in the pole vault.

 

Marion junior twins Raphael and Gabriel Greer continued their amazing distance running for the Wildcats. Raphael finished 3rd in the mile with Gabriel right behind him in 5th.  Olney’s Quaid Berger was 6th.  Gabriel was 3rd in the 2 miles with Raphael 5th and Berger snuck in between to finish 4th.

 

The countries #1 ranked high school pole vaulter had a battle in the finals as Isaiah Whitaker once again won the state title with a clear of 17’8.5 breaking the IHSA 2a state record in the process.  Andrew Nuyen of Rochelle also broke the state record in his battle.  Whitaker is from Bloomington Central Catholic and now holds both the 1a and 2a records as BCC reclassified from 1a to 2a.

 

Also in 2a, Danville junior D’Mario Jackson became the first IHSA athlete to win the 100, 200 and 400m state titles in the same competition pulling off the Triple Crown.
