James G. Schlarman, 74, passed away in his home with his family on May 20, 2026.
Jim was born to Mary (Westerman) and Joseph B. Schlarman on August 20, 1952, in Breese, Illinois. He married Lisa Warnecke on September 20, 1975, and she survives in Carlyle. He is also survived by his children, Ben (Kimberly) Schlarman of Chicago and Kelsey (Kevin Oishi) Schlarman of Boulder, CO; his brothers, Paul (Judy) Schlarman of MN and Joe Schlarman of Belleville; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Catherine; his mother- and father-in-law, Ruth and Cornelius “Bud” Warnecke; and his brothers-in-law, Ron and Phil Warnecke.
Jim graduated from St. Louis University with a degree in psychology. During his life, he worked in several industries, including the Warren G. Murray Developmental Center, World Color Press, and Tonnies Heating and Cooling.
Jim was a devoted family man. He took great pride in his children and their accomplishments and enjoyed every minute spent as a father.
An environmentalist at heart, Jim’s favorite place was the outdoors. He was an avid runner in his younger years and an enthusiastic cyclist. He followed politics closely, was a lifelong reader, and loved music, especially jazz and the Grateful Dead. Jim’s wife and family will always remember his unwavering work ethic, his great sense of humor, and the love and devotion he showed them every day.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, his remains were donated to Washington University School of Medicine. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at the Olympic Sailing Pavillion at Eldon Hazlet State Park. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family invites donations to the Matthew 25 Food Pantry (1171 Livingston St. Carlyle) or to the Clinton County Humane Society (ccilhs.org).
