Mt. Vernon Varsity Rams could not keep up with Highland 8-4 on Saturday at Glik Park.

 

Highland got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Burrows hit a sacrifice fly, and Highland scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run.

 

Highland added one run in the third. Gelly laid down a sacrifice bunt, making the score 3-1.

 

Rottmann earned the win for Highland. The pitcher allowed four hits and one run over five innings, striking out two and walking two. Bronx Hefner pitched three and one-third innings in relief for Mt. Vernon Varsity Rams. The reliever surrendered five hits and five runs (zero earned) while, striking out three and walking none. Owen Burke took the loss for Mt. Vernon Varsity Rams. The starting pitcher went two innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out none and walking two.

 

Nolan Mast went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Mt. Vernon Varsity Rams in hits. Mt. Vernon Varsity Rams turned one double play in the game.

 

Highland piled up nine hits in the game. Leckrone led Highland with three hits in four at bats. Gelly, Leckrone, Carey, Coziar, and Burrows each drove in one run for Highland. Skrobul stole two bases. Highland ran wild on the base paths, accumulating seven stolen bases for the game.

 

The Rams will open up regional play Wednesday against Centralia.
