Jarett Rushing’s tennis season continues as he won 3 matches yesterday at the Carbondale Sectional and is into the semifinals having already punched his ticket to state. He opened with a bye before beating Ogden Bennet of Centralia and then Josiah Orrill of Mt Vernon. He will take3on Henry Thomas today in the semifinal.
Carson Huggins lost his opening match to Javan Lucas of Carmi. Cash Meyer of Centralia dropped his match to top seed Kai Manzano. Mt Vernon’s Rylan Cravens won his opening match over Nick Munoz of Fairfield and then also lost to Manzano.
In doubles, the Centralia team of Reed Ashford and Ethan Samples advanced to state as they are in today’s semifinal. They opened with a win over Dodgson and Clark of Carmi before beating Mt Vernon’s Searle and Bloom-Ellis to get to the semifinals where they will play the Carbondale duo today of Meredith and Kadyrov.
The Salem team of Kyler Sapp and Caleb Squibb dropped their opening match to Koranda/Hansen of Carbondale. The team of Caleb Purintun and Jackson Green also lost to the Carbondale team of Meredith and Kadyrov.
