The bottom of the lineup helped Mt. Vernon Varsity Rams capture a 6-2 victory over Nashville on Wednesday at Cusumano Sports Complex. Gavin Pedigo, Eli Prost, and Owen Burke combined for four of the team’s seven hits in the victory. They scored two runs and drove in one.

 

Nashville got on the board in the top of the fourth inning after Diedrich walked, and Storey flew out, each scoring one run.

 

Mt. Vernon Varsity Rams flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring six runs on six hits to take the lead, 6-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Ryker Perigo that drove in two.

 

Cale Maurer earned the win for Mt. Vernon Varsity Rams. The pitcher allowed one hit and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking four. Emrick took the loss for Nashville. The pitcher went five innings, surrendering six runs (three earned) on seven hits, striking out two and walking one. Trevor McClure tossed two innings of zero-run ball for Mt. Vernon Varsity Rams in relief. The reliever surrendered one hit, striking out four and walking none.

 

Number seven hitter, Burke, showed the depth of Mt. Vernon Varsity Rams’s lineup, by leading them with two hits in three at bats. Nolan Mast, Perigo, Maxwell Nowak, and Pedigo each drove in one run for Mt. Vernon Varsity Rams. Mast stole two bases. Mt. Vernon Varsity Rams turned one double play in the game.

 

Diedrich and Storey were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Nashville while hitting back-to-back. Diedrich and Storey were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Nashville. Nashville ran wild on the base paths, tallying four stolen bases for the game.

 

Mt. Vernon Varsity Rams will travel to Freeburg for their next game on Friday.
