Mt Vernon Lady Rams Varsity were triumphant over Mascoutah Varsity Indians 9-5 on Wednesday at Waterloo High School.

 

Mt Vernon Lady Rams Varsity jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Arwyn Wilkey singled, scoring one run, Allie Sweeten hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Paige Watson homered to left field, scoring two runs.

 

A home run to right field by Shea Groves gave Mascoutah Varsity Indians the lead, 5-4, in the bottom of the third.

 

Mt Vernon Lady Rams Varsity captured the lead, 8-5, in the top of the sixth when Sweeten singled, scoring one run, Elaina Schulte hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and a dropped third strike scored two runs.

 

Danicah Tobin earned the win for Mt Vernon Lady Rams Varsity. The starting pitcher gave up five hits and five runs (four earned) over seven innings, striking out three and walking one. Jayce Mclaurin took the loss for Mascoutah Varsity Indians. The hurler went seven innings, surrendering nine runs (six earned) on nine hits, striking out four and walking one.

 

Sweeten provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Mt Vernon Lady Rams Varsity with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Wilkey and Tobin were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Mt Vernon Lady Rams Varsity while hitting back-to-back.

 

Mikaela Fallon and Groves each drove in two runs for Mascoutah Varsity Indians. Mascoutah Varsity Indians turned one double play in the game.
