Heavy rains are causing road flooding problems in Marion County, with low-lying roads impassable at the usual places during heavy rains.

Salem Police Chief Tyler Rose says the Salem Public Works Department is asking residents of Starlight Mobile Home Park to leave the park as water levels are now at 11 and a half inches over the spillway and expected to rise.  The level is still below the 18 inches where a flood watch is issued.

At least one car had to be pulled from the water on South College near Sanger in the area of the gas plant due to flooding.  Rose says Main Street, West Whitaker, and South College have had the most flooding issues.

Due to the weather situation, the Salem City Council meeting for six tonight has been postponed until Wednesday.  A reception for new police chief Rose will be held at 5:30 Wednesday evening, to be followed by the regular meeting at six.

In Centralia, the water plant reports 2.39 inches of rain through 4 p.m.  One gate of Raccoon Lake is fully open 10 feet to get rid of excess water.  That will cause flooding downstream, including Brick Hill Road.
