Applegate’s Grand Slam Lifts Salem Over Mater Dei
The Wildcats knocked off Mater Dei in Breese 9-4. Salem trailed 3-2 in the sixth inning, but Zane Applegate gave Salem the lead with a grand slam, the freshman’s first career high school varsity home run. Salem would get a 2-run single from Brendan Smith to add to their lead. Brody Collier went 5.2 allowing 4 runs on 8 hits with 5 strikeouts. Aaden Rostance worked 1.1 innings for the win in relief. Logan Butts doubled and had 2 hits and Carter Lowe added a double and RBI.
The Salem Wildcats will head to 3rd ranked Mascoutah today to play on their freshly renovated turf field.

NC Gets Win At Centralia
North Clay got a big road win at Centralia 4-1. The Cardinals got on the board in the first on an RBI single from Ian Jones. He extended the lead to 3-1 in the top of the third with another RBI. Jack Compton tripled with 2 hits, Carder Walden also had 2 hits. Compton was the winning pitcher with Cody Zimdars getting the save with a clean 7th. Rhett Lambert and Archie Goewey had the 2 Centralia hits.
Shumate’s RBI Lifts SC Over Flora
South Central broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the fifth and held off Flora 4-3 on the road. Garret Shumate singled home the go ahead run. Luke Shumate and Hudson Moore added RBI. Colton Tockstein earned the win allowing one earned run in his complete game scattering 9 hits. Kaiden Harrell and Aiden Hoover had 2 hits each. SC is at TTown on Monday.
Mt Vernon travels to Graves County, Kentucky for a game with the hosts as well as Lyons County.
