Wildcats won big over Effingham Junior Varsity Hearts 10-4 on Tuesday.
A ground out by Zane Applegate put Wildcats on the board in the top of the first.
Wildcats added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Drake Rector singled up the middle, and Huck Mulvany flew out, each scoring one run.
Jax Schaubert earned the win for Wildcats. The right-handed pitcher allowed eight hits and four runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking four. Balin Garris took the loss for Effingham Junior Varsity Hearts. The pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, surrendering four runs (two earned) on two hits, striking out two and walking three. Landon White tossed two innings of no-run ball for Wildcats in relief. The pitcher gave up two hits, striking out one and walking none.
Damon Jennings went 3-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Nicholi Marhanka paced Wildcats with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing nine walks for the game. Marhanka and Kyler King each stole multiple bases for Wildcats. Wildcats stole six bases in the game.
Effingham Junior Varsity Hearts tallied 10 hits in the game. Carter Kalber and Dagg Thompson each collected two hits for Effingham Junior Varsity Hearts. Coen Westjohn went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Effingham Junior Varsity Hearts stole five bases in the game.
