The Salem Wildcats host the Centralia Orphans at the HS Field today for baseball action. There will be no JV game at the Little League Complex.
The Wildcats are 0-6 after losing their game at Charleston 11-2. Salem led 2-0 after Brendan Smith singled home two runs in the top of the fourth. But Charleston answered right back scoring 8 runs on six hits in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-2 lead. Carter Lowe was the starter for the Cats allowing 5 hits and 5 runs over 3.1. Smith went 2-3 with Eli LoGrasso also adding 2 hits.
The JV lost 11-4. Landon White and Huck Mulvaney had the only 2 hits for Salem. Mulvany drove in a run. The Salem defense made 5 errors in the game. White was the starter going 3.1 allowing 3 earned runs. Jax Schaubert went the final 2.2 allowing 6 hits and 4 earned. The JV is now 2-2 on the season.
Centralia took a late lead and beat Herrin 9-8. Rhett Lambert had 3 hits including a double. Gabe Houser broke an 8-8 tie in the top of the sixth with an RBI single. Lambert was also the winning pitcher giving up 5 earned runs over 3 innings. Dax Snow was the starter. Houser led the Orphans with 3 RBI, Lambert and Houser added 3 hits, Valon Williams had 2.
Mt Vernon dropped their 2nd straight game, losing to Civic Memorial 13-9. Trevor McClure went 3-3 with 3 doubles, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Cale Maurer also added 3 hits with a double and drove in 2 runs. Ty Pierce had 2 hits with a double and 2 runs, Nolan Mast went 2-4. The Rams are 3-3 on the season.
The SC Cougars beat down Cisne 14-2 at Lions Field. Junior Luke Shumate hit his first Cougar home run. SC scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 4th to take a commanding lead. Aidan Hoover allowed 3 hits and 1 earned run over 3 innings for the win. Colton Tockstein pitched 2 innings of no-run ball. Hoover went 3-4, Garret Shumate and Hudson Moore drove in 3 runs.
Christ Our Rock looks for the season sweep against Maryville Christian as they play on the road coming off Tuesday’s home win.
