The Wildcats baseball team will travel to Charleston today after losing yesterday at home to Benton 5-1 to fall to 0-5 on the season. Luke Boldt doubled down the right field line to tie the game at 1 in the bottom of the third. Benton broke the game open in the top of the fifth scoring 4 times on just 1 hit and taking advantage of 3 Salem errors in the inning. Boldt took the loss for Salem going 4.2 allowing 4 runs but none of them were earned, on 3 hits and 4 strikeouts. Angel Salgado doubled, Brendan Smith had 2 hits and Salem also had a single from Eli LoGrasso.
The Salem JV made it 2 straight wins as they blew out Benton 22-12. Bentley Bryan drove in 6 runs on 3 hits for Salem. Landon White was the winning pitcher allowing 2 hits and 2 runs in his 1.2 innings. Kellen Nix, Bryan and Rhett Starnes also pitched for the Cats. White and Bryan led the way with 3 hits, Zane Applegate and Drake Rector had 2.
Mt Vernon is at Civic Memorial. The Rams fell to Triad 14-2 yesterday. Ty Pierce doubled and scored, Nolan Mast had an RBI single, Maxwell Nowak doubled and scored, Ethan Fitzjerrells had an RBI single and Ryker Perigo added a hit. The Rams are 3-2.
Christ Our Rock earned a conference win over Maryville Christian 5-1. Brayden Albert was the winning pitcher working 4.2 allowing one run. Colton Cartright threw 2.1 innings of shutout relief for the Save. Evan Beal, Blake Hanke and Albert drove in runs for the Stallions who will travel to Maryville Christian tomorrow.
North Clay scored 15 runs in the first inning as they pounded Brownstown/St Elmo 21-3 to improve to 5-0 on the season. Cayden Craig, Ian Jones, Will Ballard and Chase Bangert had 2 hits for the Cards. Craig drove in 3 runs. Cody Zimdars was the winning pitcher.
Marion routed Olney 16-5 pounding out 18 hits. Bethel hit a 2-run homer, Harriss had 5 hits, Pickles went 3-5 with 5 RBI and Roper had 3 hits and drove in 2.
Today the Orphans play at Herrin.
