The Salem Wildcats gave up 6 runs in the 2nd inning as they dropped their season opening home baseball game to visiting Mt Vernon 11-1. Luke Boldt had the only hit and RBI for Salem. Brody Collier took the loss with Carter Lowe and Boldt also getting work in. Cale Maurer was the winning pitcher going 3 innings and striking out 4. Eli Prost also pitched a couple innings for the Rams. Trevor McClure had 2 hits and 3 RBI, Bronx Hefner and Maurer had 2 RBI each with doubles and multi-hit days. The Mt Vernon Rams return to action at Plummer Park in Edwardsville today to take on Champaign Central.
The Salem JV lost their game with Mt Vernon 15-5. Zane Aplegate, Kaden Cripps and Nicholi Marhanka had 2 hits each with Applegate and Marhanka drove in a run. Ethan Fitzjerrells was the winning pitcher for the Rams and also went 4-5 at the plate.
Centralia is at Odin. Christ Our Rock heads to Metro East Lutheran.
