A rural Salem resident returned to his home late Monday afternoon to find the inside of the house had earlier burned with the fire apparently putting itself out when running out of oxygen.
The Ryan Spencer home at 2929 Page southwest of Salem received significant fire and heavy smoke damage. The fire never broke through the windows or the roof. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
The Salem Fire Protection District provided CPR and oxygen to two of Spencer’s dogs inside the home and were able to revive them. He was going to take them to an emergency veterinarian for further help. The other three dogs died in the fire.
The fire call came in at 5:45 Monday evening, with firemen on the scene for about two hours.
