The southbound lanes of I-57 between the Kinmundy and Salem exits were closed for about two hours Monday morning when a semi-trailer caught fire.

The Salem Fire Protection District reports the interstate remains down to one lane southbound at the 117-mile marker, a mile north of U.S. 50, as work continues to move the remains of the trailer and its contents of auto parts.   Salem Firemen were joined by Odin Firemen in fighting the fire.

The Canadian driver of the truck told authorities he first noticed smoke coming from one of the tires.  The fire spread to the front third of the truck and a small area of the cab.

The truck is owned by Insight Global Logistics.

The fire call first came in around five Monday morning, with firemen clearing the scene shortly after seven when one lane of the Interstate was reopened.
