A 71-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been sentenced in Jefferson County Court to ten years in prison for residential arson.
Larry Moss admitted to setting a fire in an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Maple Street in November 2024. A relative had reported the fire, saying Moss was trying to set things on fire. The fire was confined to the one unit and quickly extinguished by Mt. Vernon City Firefighters. Other apartments in the building were evacuated during the firefighting effort.
There were no reports of injuries.
Once out of prison, Moss will have to complete one year of mandatory supervised release.
Special prosecutor Justin Hood handled the case.
Moss still has two counts of hate crime pending against him.
