The Greenview Country Club in Centralia has new owners.
A group headed by Roger and Kristy Campbell have purchased the club from Steve Whritenour who first listed it for sale three and a half years ago.
“I know the rumors went around about solar farms and transitioning this to something outside of a golf course,” Whritenour said. “I could never swallow enough pride to do something like that, because I wanted Greenview to remain a golf course. That was my goal all along.”
Whritenour is also pleased that the club will remain in local hands. He notes text messages have been underway with Roger Campbell for quite some time, they finally ironed out an agreement on September 18th. The sale is expected to close on Friday.
With the sale being finalized, the Campbells have had a crew of eight already getting rid of downed trees and making improvements to the cart paths the past three weeks. Lifelong golfer and Greenview player Kristy Campbell promises more improvements are on the way.
“We’re going to keep all the leagues the same and hope we get more people in them,” Campbell said. “A couple’s league is kind of up in the air. If people have interest in it, we’ll look towards it. We want to push big for juniors. I want sixth, seventh and eighth graders playing out here… that we’re really going to push for. If those kids play golf and their parents don’t where they would have to play, they can play all year for $100, because I want the young ones playing. We’re going to have a junior tournament. We do have a general manager coming in. I don’t know if he’ll be in January 1, but you’ll all recognize him. I think everyone will be pleased with him. We’re interviewing superintendents… right now we’re just clearing anything dead we can clear.”
Campbell is encouraging members and those who play the golf course to make suggestions for improvements.
The Campbell’s say realizing the economy is not great, they will allow memberships to be paid monthly with no interest charge. Several discounted packages are available through the end of the year. There will be a $25 fee to play during the winter months up to March 31st. Current memberships will be honored through the end of the year.
Campbell says a pro-shop and snack shop are planned in the current event building. She hopes they are able to find someone to lease and operate the main restaurant.
Whritenour bought the golf course in December 2014 from Senior Pro Tom Wargo. He has lots of good memories and is thankful to all the loyal supporters of the golf course.
