A 17-year-old juvenile has been ordered detained after being charged in Marion County Court with multiple offenses in connection with a Wednesday fight at the Menta Academy and later leading Wamac Police on a foot chase.

The juvenile is accused of striking a 15-year-old female student multiple times sending her to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for treatment.  Wamac Police were already at the school on another incident and helped break up the fight.

While waiting to be transported to the Marion County Jail, the juvenile allegedly ran from police down Wabash Avenue to Big Three Precision where he allegedly obtained a hammer and came towards the officer.  After being tazed, Wamac Police say the juvenile was taken into custody without further incident.

The juvenile is facing charges of two counts of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and one count of felony resisting/obstructing arrest.  The resisting charge is a felony because the officer fell during the chase and received minor scrapes to one of his knees.
