Marion County Coroner Claude Howell is conducting an autopsy Tuesday into the cause of death of a 44-year-old rural Salem man who was found dead in the backyard of his home late Monday afternoon.

Howell says the man appears to have died Monday morning but was not discovered by a neighbor until 5:30 pm.  The man lived alone in the home.

Howell says there was no apparent cause of death, no indications of foul play, and no medical history.  He hopes the autopsy will determine the cause of death.

The man’s name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
