State Police say a truck driver was injured when her rig left southbound I-57 near the Kinmundy exit Sunday afternoon.

A preliminary investigation indicates the trucker reportedly veered off the roadway to the right to avoid another vehicle, hitting a guardrail, and coming to a stop in the tree line.  Her name has not been released.

Kinmundy Alma Fire Chief Kevin Day says the driver was out of the vehicle upon their arrival.  She was transported via Kinmundy-Alma and United Medical Response to Salem Township Hospital for treatment.   She reportedly was later airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital.

The truck received front end damage when hitting a tree and had to be towed.

The crash occurred at 2:17 Sunday afternoon.
