The final two games of the Benton Shootout put a cap on a great day of basketball at Rich Herrin Gymnasium.
Goreville had lost two in a row, but came to Benton and made a statement knocking off #1 Lawrenceville 60-55. Zach Green was great in the win scoring 19. Jared Goff had 17 for the Indians in the loss.
In the finale, Waltonville held a 6 point lead on Nashville with just under 6 minutes left, but the Hornets would finish the game on a 16-2 run to pull out the 59-51 victory. Maddox Ritzel had 16 in the win. Gage Peterson and Ryley Stewart each had 17 for the Spartans.
Earlier in the day, Carlyle beat state ranked Webber 62-59. The Trojans had a 1 point lead with under a minute to go, but the Indians squeezed out the victory. Zack Persing led the Tribe with 26 points. Brady Gustafson added 13 and Jay Johnson 10. Nathanial Marlow had 23 points, Waylon Jones 15 and Jacob Marlow 10 for the Trojans. Marlow is just 46 points away from 3,000 in his career.
