It’s Mega Day and Blackout at Centralia High School as Salem travels to Trout Arena. The JV girl’s game tips off the day at 3pm with the varsity contest at 4:30. The Salem Wildcats lost a heartbreaker last night to Freeburg 57-56. Salem trailed by 10 points in the third quarter but mounted their comeback. With the game tied at 54, Avery Gullion was fouled with 5.3 seconds left. The junior hit both free throws to give Salem the 2 point lead, but Freeburg hit a runner from beyond mid-court as time expired to pull out the win. Gullion had a great game scoring a game-high 24 points on 9-16 shooting, including 4-7 from the three point line. Luke Boldt and Owen Tennyson played well off the bench with Boldt scoring 9. Ryegan Warren added 7. Logan Butts was a beast on the board pulling down 12 rebounds.
The night began with the Salem freshmen winning 49-26 and the JV won 57-45.
Centralia is coming off a 67-52 win at Cahokia, and clinched no worse than a share of the South 7 Conference title in their final year in the league. The Orphans were led by Archie Goewey with 20, Michael Organ had 15, Devin Meier 14. C’Narri Griffin hit 7 three pointers to lead Cahokia with 26.
Patoka is in action tonight at home against North Clay. Christ Our Rock plays at New Athens, Mt Vernon heads to Mattoon.
