A homicide investigation is underway in Jefferson County after an autopsy showed a Dahlgren man died from a gunshot wound.
The man, identified as 47-year-old James D. Cross of Dahlgren, was found unresponsive in a parking lot area in the 21800 block of East Bonnie Road in Belle Rive after the sheriff’s department received a 911 call at 7:12 Sunday morning.
An autopsy conducted Sunday afternoon determined Cross had died from a gunshot wound.
The investigation is ongoing ,and no other information is currently being released.
The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators, and Detectives from the Mt. Vernon Police Department.
