A 34-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for aggravated arson. Zackery Roberts was found guilty of the charge during a jury trial last November.
Roberts was charged in connection with a fire that damaged an apartment building owned by Jeffrey Scott Clinton at 3026 South Benton in Mt. Vernon on August 5th, 2024. He was arrested later following an investigation by Mt. Vernon Police and the State Fire Marshals office.
Under state law, Roberts will have to serve at least 85-percent of the sentence.
He has already filed a motion asking for a new trial.
