A barn with a tractor inside was destroyed by fire Wednesday afternoon south of Salem.

The Salem Fire Protection District reports the fire was on the Shannon Kell property at 4325 Levy Road just off Route 37 South.  Upon arrival, the barn was heavily involved.

Salem Assistant Fire Chief Bill Fulton says the fire apparently started from a burn pile 30 feet away that spread to the open side of the barn.   The owner thought the fire had been put out.

The fire call came in at 1:37 Wednesday afternoon with firemen on the scene for about an hour.  Salem called Centralia District, Kell, and Odin for mutual aide, with Kinmundy-Alma standing by at the Salem Fire Station in the event of another fire.
