The Iuka Fire Protection District has purchased a new first-out engine for structure fires.
The engine was purchased used from the Waynesville Rural Fire Protection District in Missouri. Fire Chief Kenny Eagan reports the plan is to have the new engine in service in January after some upgrades.
One of those upgrades is being made possible by a donation from the Romine Prairie Presbyterian Church. The church is providing the money to cover the cost of an emergency lighting upgrade.
The new engine has a 1,500-gallon tank capacity and will replace the current 1,000-gallon tank. Additionally, the new engine seats one more in the cab for a total of five firefighters, plus the engineer-driver. Once the new engine is placed into service, the district will be looking to sell the older of the two remaining engines.
