Continental Tire broke ground on its new $76-million warehouse expansion at its Mt. Vernon facility on Thursday. The project announced in May will cover an area larger than six football fields and will be able to store approximately 500,000 passenger-car tires.
The new facility is expected to open sometime next year. It will highly automate finished goods and is designed to strengthen the company’s distribution network to serve customers across North America.
The Mt. Vernon plant is Continental’s largest tire plant in the United States with 3,500 employees. The plant makes tires for passenger vehicles, light trucks, and commercial vehicles.
