The Salem Wildcats went 1-1 on the first day of the Capital Classic in Lawrenceville. Salem beat Olney in last night’s game 78-65. The Cats shot an amazing 91% from the field in the first half on their way to a 54-26 lead. Salem hit 13 three pointers in the game in an impressive shooting performance. Kaeden Bevolo led Salem with 22 going 6-of-12 from the three point line. Sophomore Luke Boldt had 19 off the bench including 5-of-6 from distance. Avery Gullion, who missed the opening game, had 15 in his debut and Payton Gullion added 9 points.
Salem opened the tournament with a 58-46 loss to Vincennes as the Alices were 18-of-23 from the foul line and the Cats were just 0-1. Ryegan Warren had 13 of his game high 24 in the first quarter to lead Salem. Payton Gullion had a solid all-around game with 7 points 6 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.
The Wildcats return to action today at 11:30 against Lawrenceville. Salem could play in any game from the championship all the way down to 5th place depending on the results. The Indians are 2-0 after wins over Olney 52-32 and Vincennes 48-40.
In the Red Hill action, TTown dominated the first day as they routed Mt Carmel 70-17 and beat Fairfield 61-51. Fairfield beat Red Hill 61-50 and Mt Carmel over Red Hill 73-65.
