Orphans Win Opener, Dominate Freeburg at Roxana
At Roxana tonight, Freeburg takes on Civic and Staunton plays Roxana in the main gym and at the junior high gym its Granite City and U-City followed by Althoff and Piasa.
Last night Centralia had no first game jitters as they hit from the perimeter and used suffocating defense to beat Freeburg 74-33. The Orphans will be back in action on Wednesday against Civic Memorial. Also Carbondale beat Piasa 77-45, Roxana over Jerseyville 56-46 and U-City beat Marquette 51-37.
Sandoval Falls At Elverado Opener
Sandoval dropped their tournament opener at Elverado to Cairo 73-39. The hosts lost in overtime to Crab Orchard in the other game 78-74.
Patoka Wins Opener Over Christopher, Up Next Marlow and Webber
At Christopher, New Athens takes on Zeigler followed by Waltonville and Marissa. In the opening night, Webber Township beat Thompsonville 72-40 and Patoka/Odin won their tournament opener over Christopher 47-40.
SC Falls In Coach Zurliene’s Debut
At Mulberry Grove, South Central and Ramsey will play at 8:15. Yesterday, Coach Landen Zurliene dropped his first game as coach of SC when the Cougars fell to Maryville Christian 56-24. St Elmo opened up with a 74-55 win over Lebanon and McGivney beat Mulberry Grove 70-45.

At St Anthony, Effingham opens with Leo, Normandy takes on Rantoul and then Mattoon plays Breese Central. Yesterday, Breese Central routed Normandy 68-28, Edwardsville beat St Anthony 51-34.
Tonight at Cumberland, Casey takes on Okaw Valley followed by Newton and Cumberland. In other first round games yesterday, North Clay opened with a 60-48 win over Vandalia and Dieterich nipped Marshall 41-39.
The Wesclin Tip Off starts tonight with Nashville and Columbia followed by Wesclin and Mater Dei.
