The Salem Wildcats soccer season saw its share of highlights. One of those being senior Eli Baker’s pursuit of the IHSA All Time Goal Scoring Record. All season long, Baker has been in a battle with Beecher High senior Wences Baumgartner in the quest for the all-time record. Baker broke it first with his 6 goal performance against Wood River late in the season. However, Baumgartner regained the edge by 3 goals as his season came to an end. Baker finished with a pair of goals in the Wildcats regional opening win over Raymond Lincolnwood to finish his career with 184 goals….the exact number as Baumgartner. So both with share the honor. Wences scored 61 goals this season, while Baker finished his Hall of Fame career at SCHS with 56. The record was previously held by Carlos Posada of Crete Monee who scored 177 goals from 2007-2011.
