The IHSA state girls and boys golf tournaments were held over the weekend.  The 1a girls tournament was held at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur where Salem junior Mya Russell finished her great season tied for 13th.   She shot 81/83 for a 2-day total of +16.

Father McGivney’s Sarah Hyten was the state champion shooting +2 on the tournament.  Columbia’s Avery Arendell was 2nd with Merryn Elliott of Carterville tied for 3rd, Maya Kampwerth of Breese Central was 7th.  Carlyle’s Ava Meyer was 15th and teammate Abby Steinkamp was 35th with Brynn Stiegman of Nashville 23rd.

Mt Carmel won their 5th straight IHSA state title finishing 25 strokes ahead of 2nd place Quincy Notre Dame shooting +48 over the 2-day tournament.  Breese Central was 3rd shooting +81 followed in 4th place by rival Mater Dei at +123.  St Anthony finished 7th.

In the 2a girls tournament held at Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur.  Glenbrook North is the team champion, 5 shots ahead of Lincolnshire Stevenson with O’Fallon 8th.  Oswego East sophomore Alli Wiertel is the state champ shooting -8 including a 7-under 64 on Saturday.  Glenbrook North’s Martha Kuwahara and Miah Wanserski of Downers Grove South tied for 2nd shooting -3.
